Center for Independent Journalism (Budapest, Hungary)

The Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) is a foundation that promotes quality and ethical journalism and supports independent media in Hungary and Europe.

Since its establishment in 1995, CIJ has focused its activities on raising professional skills and capacities of journalists and providing mentoring and direct assistance according to the journalists’ needs.

CIJ regularly organizes workshops, roundtable discussions and conferences (on a non-profit basis) on key issues of importance to news media.

CIJ has contributed to the strengthening of media self-regulation in Hungary.

It has always put a special emphasis on diversity reporting (Roma, gender, migration).

CIJ cooperates with Hungarian and international CSOs. It is a member of IFEX, global network defending and promoting free expression.
