Media Initiatives – Association for Media Development and Promotion of Professional Journalism is a non-profit organization from Sarajevo founded in 2005 by Media Plan Institute.
Its work is focused on raising public awareness on the importance of developing democracy and tolerant public dialog, respect for human rights and diversity. Media Initiatives organizes training programs, seminars and media conferences aimed at supporting development of modern professional and ethical media. It is also active in media production, research and publishing.
From 1996, Media Plan Institute and Media Initiatives have implemented 80 projects. The most significant among them are:
- Media Plan High College of Journalism (1998-2006) – one-year school of practical journalism for students from ex YU
- Press Clipping Service (1999-2013) – daily media monitoring for commercial clients and public institutions
- Mediaonline (2000-2015) – web magazine on media in South East Europe
- Partnership with UNICEF and Save the Children (2009-2012) – communication and educational activities for professionals and the general public.
- Knowledge IN, corruption OUT (2017-2019) – strengthening youth activism in the fight against corruption
- Roma portal UDAR (2017 – present) – the first Roma portal in the region with daily production
- Publishing and research – 13 books on journalism and media were published and 50 researches were done on media content analysis and public opinion polls.
