Peace Institute – Institute for Contemporary Social and Political Studies (PI) is a non-profit research institution and civil society organisation established in 1991.
It develops interdisciplinary research and combines academic research with advocacy in various fields of public policy.
The institute works in five thematic fields:
- human rights and minorities,
- politics,
- media,
- gender
- cultural policy.
In the media field, it develops media policy research, particularly related to media pluralism and media freedom, participating in the EU research projects. The recent research focus in Slovenia includes political and media populism and gender equality in the media. The institute has been particularly engaged in the comparative research in South East Europe on media ownership, media integrity, media and information literacy, hate and propaganda media, sustainability of professional journalism etc.
It supports media reforms by contributing to the development of media regulation and self-regulation.
Peace Institute was among founding members of the SEENPM.
In 2021, the institute celebrated 30th anniversary.
