Courses for reporting on science, statistics available

Anyone can access these online courses at any time.

U.K.’s Royal Statistical Society offers two free online courses for journalists that provide an introduction to the essentials of how science works, and give an overview the basic principles and methods of statistics.

Science for Journalists” gives a brief overview of where scientific and health stories start, how science works and is communicated, key questions to ask and how to find suitable experts.

Statistics for Journalists” helps reporting on basic statistics that are central to many everyday stories, including surveys and polls, percentages and uncertainty.

The courses feature presentations, exercises and handouts for further reading. The estimated time for each course is 30 minutes.
