Journalists are invited to attend the fourth of eight media seminars organised by the European Commission, Directorate General for Justice and Consumers. The seminars will bring together journalists, local authorities and representatives of Roma communities.
The aim is to develop closer communication between reporters, communities, local authorities and organisations to highlight steps being taken to end discrimination against Europe’s largest minority.
The Media Seminars are the first to be carried out by the European Commission bringing international and local journalists together with members of the Roma community across eight countries.
Activities being undertaken by the for Roma, with Roma programme include support for voluntary initiatives that promote mutual learning, mentoring Roma through positive role models, and closer co-operation between local and regional public authorities on Roma integration across the European Union.
Media seminars have taken place in Romania and Hungary and others are planned for Sofia, Bulgaria on 11-12 April 2016, Strasbourg, France on 26-27 April, Slovakia and the Czech Republic in May and Germany and Italy in June. The seminars are part of a wider project to encourage better integration and inclusion between Roma and the wider community.

Deadline for applications: 11 April 2016
Places are limited to only 15 journalists per briefing. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to visit local Roma communities and talk with Roma representatives. They will also receive up-to-date data the situation across Europe and an introduction to useful resources and informed European organisations they can contact when reporting on Roma in the future.

Confirmation of successful applications will be sent out by 15 April 2016. Participants will be funded for their travel, meals and one nights ’ accommodation.
