Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung launches Investigative Journalism Manual

The Global Media Programme of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) released the new Investigative Journalism Manual (IJM).

The IJM is work in progress. While the chapters offer fundamental skills, new case-studies will be added continuously to the website. On top of that the readers can test themselves while running through the multiple-choice-test every chapter offers.

The Manual is a revised version of the IJM the KAS Media Programme Africa published seven years ago. The great success of the first version was the reason for KAS to update and internationalize the chapters. The old website had more than 30,000 visitors every year.

Christian Echle, Director of KAS Media Africa said: “As a self-learning tool, the Manual has been providing important skills for investigative journalists on the African continent. This is a success story we want to continue across the entire world.”

Investigative journalists in Africa and Asia often operate in environments which seem by default designed to shut them down: Repressive media laws, lack of resources and a widespread culture of so called anti-terrorism laws. The IJM offers assistance for reporters who are facing such challenges.

With this project, the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation encourages journalists to make use of what the manual has to offer. The results of their work will strengthen existing democratic institutions or serve as a catalyst to establish democratic structures where there are none.
