How are digital platforms and online media being regulated across Southeast Europe? What risks do current approaches create for media freedom, the rule of law, and democracy in general?
A new collection of risk assessments of digital platform and media regulation, conducted by SEENPM, provides an in-depth analysis of regulatory trends in the digital environment, focusing on key risks, challenges, and policy implications for media systems in the region.
The assessments identify and examine human rights and rule of law risks associated with the regulation of digital platforms and media in the digital environment in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Türkiye.
The risk assessments are part of a series of studies on this topic in the region conducted under the UNESCO project “Building Trust in Media in South-East Europe: Support for Journalism as a Public Good”, financed by the European Union.
