A project aimed at building capacity and coalitions for monitoring media integrity and advancing media reform.
SEE Media Observatory is a regional partnership of media CSOs, members of SEENPM, dedicated to enhancing media freedom and pluralism and improving media reforms in the countries of South East Europe.
The initiative addresses systemic obstacles to democratic development of media systems by providing a regional instrument for media research and monitoring and support to investigative journalism and civil society engagement. It also offers a regional framework for debate, consultation and coalition building among key stakeholders.
SEE Media Observatory seeks to highlight the problems affecting the integrity of journalism in the region, focusing on harmful patterns of media ownership and media finances.
In 2013 and 2014 the project concentrated on media integrity in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia. In 2015, the scope of the project was expanded to also include Turkey, Montenegro and Kosovo.
South East European Media Observatory is envisaged as a long-term initiative of SEENPM.
